Psoriasis.

Introduction.

Psoriasis is a noncontagious and chronic skin disorder. A patient with psoriasis usually has patches of red skin with scales that are silvery. The skin of a patient may be scaly, and red as a result of the type of psoriasis the patient has. The most common areas affected by psoriasis are knees, elbows, and scalp. It can also affect nails, trunk, and legs. Basically, the disease can affect the skin on one`s body. The reason why psoriasis is noncontagious it is because it is not an infectious disease. Coming into body contact with a patient of psoriasis will not transmit the disease in any way. However, the scaly skin patches can be infectious, particularly when there are cases of split on the affected skin.

Discussion.

In psoriasis, the immune system has a particularly crucial role. A group of the white blood cells called T lymphocytes usually cause skin inflammation and also on different parts of the body. A certain part of the T cells produces chemicals that cause abnormal multiplication of skin cells. It also causes small skin blood vessels to change which results to the scaling of the skin.

Psoriasis is genetic; therefore, it can be inherited from your parents. There are those people who carry genes that are likely to cause psoriasis. Though, a person carrying the genes does not mean they will be victims of psoriasis. Most patients of psoriasis have inherited it while those with the genes may have psoriasis due to certain factors. There are certain environmental factors that will trigger psoriasis. This factors include smoking, alcoholism, and exposure to the sun. These factors will significantly determine how often psoriasis will occur, and the time taken by flare-ups to get healed. Skin injuries can also trigger psoriasis. Skin inflammation, excessive scratching of the skin and skin infections triggers psoriasis.

There are several medications available for psoriasis treatment. The flare-ups can lasts for weeks depending on certain factors and how one cares for the disease. Psoriasis, in most cases will heal and later in future returns

Plaque psoriasis is the most known type of psoriasis and its signs and symptoms are skin inflammation and silvery red scales on the skin. A patient may also have circular or oval-shaped patches red in color that itch. This is typically a condition of plaque psoriasis.

A certain percentage of patients with plaque psoriasis has psoriatic arthritis. These patients usually have inflammation cases on their joints that could as well result to the damage of the joint not treated in time. Medical statistics shows that most patients of psoriasis are at a risk of having diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. This has showed that psoriasis doe not only affect the skin, but can cause different systematic effects on the patients.

There are those cases that plaque psoriasis turn into a deadly disease such as pustular and erythrodermic psoriasis. In this type of condition, red skin area is itchy and painful. While in pustular psoriasis, red patches on the skin will blisters with pus.
