Hemorrhagic ovarian cyst.

Introduction.

Ovarian cysts are small sacs filled with fluid found on the inside or outside the ovaries. Most of the ovarian cysts are harmless, and they affect women at any age but mostly during child bearing years. Some may result into problems like bleeding, rupturing and pain which may require one to undergo surgery to cure the cysts. Most of the cyst are benign which means that they are not cancerous. This type of cysts may disappear by themselves in a matter of time without treatment. They are those cysts that are cancerous, so careful diagnosis are needed to notice the type of the cyst. There are different types of cysts and hemorrhagic ovarian cyst is among the common type of cyst. It is also known as blood cyst or some will refer to it as hematocyst or hematocele. Hemorrhagic ovarian cyst occurs when a blood vessel in the wall of the ovary breaks and flows to fill the cyst. They are types of functional cyst since they occur during menstruation periods as they are affected by hormones.

Signs & Symptoms of hemorrhagic ovarian cyst.

The first and most common sign that occurs is abdominal pain which may affects one side of the body. Incase the cyst rupture, blood flows into the ovary causing pain and stretching of the ovarian walls. Signs related to anemia will be present. Though, the chances of the rupturing of the cysts are minimal because most of them will regulate themselves. Those large hemorrhagic cysts will require surgical removal while others that rupture will revolve without the attention of a surgeon. There may be also developments of blood clots which be lead to restriction of blood flow. This leads to high level of discomfort and may cause other damages to the ovary.

Treatment of hemorrhagic ovarian cysts.

Incase of pain during hemorrhagic ovarian cyst, professional may prescribe a patient to narcotics, pain relievers such as ibuprofen and other pain medications. Releasing tension and stimulating flow of blood the use of heating pads, ice packs and hot water bottles are the best methods for a patient to use.

In a situation where surgery becomes necessary, laparoscopy is used by professionals to remove the cysts. Laparoscopy method is also referred to as pinhole or keyhole surgery. During the process of this surgery, a doctor makes incisions for the cysts usually on the belly bottom area and inserts a thin rod lens and a camera. The cysts are then carefully removed from the patient.

Advantages of laparoscopy surgery.

(1). There is usually less blood loss from the patient during the process of the operation.

(2). The patients feel less pain.

(3). Less scarring during the process of making incisions.

(4). The recovery periods of the patients are usually short.

  Conclusion.

It is therefore advisable for one to seek quick medical care to prevent the cysts from growing worse. In some cases, hemorrgahic ovarian cyst may regulate itself but even in this case, medical check ups will be required to accertain that one is safe.
